Risk Mitigation when launching a new product
Eastman Chemical company and a customer decided to launch a new product. However the risks where unknow, which made the customer reluctant to offer a warranty over their product.
The approach:
In order to mitigate the identified risks, a multidiscipline team from both companies was led to:
-
Create a process map of the production process covering activities from the customer to Eastman's manufacturing process
-
Prioritize the key inputs that needed to be optimized, where a difference was known to exist with the existing product.
-
Use a failure mode and effect analysis to understand the main areas of risk for the new product
-
Experiments were run for the appropriate parameters
-
Based on the experiments the customer offered a warranty for its new product, which increased sales for both parties.
The result
The customer offered the warranty and sales increased for both parties
